I had the magical experience to see Missy last month in Sydney. It’s been 20 years since ‘The Sound of White’ album hit the airwaves. I know this song will mean something different for everyone. I have bawled listening to it in the car and also cried my eyes out in the concert itself.
So why the sadness? Why do some songs give us so much clarity or an outpouring of emotion? Crying is simply an expression of emotion – the unfamiliar facial expressions, the tears, the snot, the sounds, the whole body experience. The emotion is being allowed to do what it is meant to do naturally, and maybe in the past we weren’t able to express ourselves in this way, with this freedom.
No matter what the reason, you always feel lighter, better, like there’s been a release afterwards. Neurologically, there is a lot of activity going on in the emotional part of the brain. No one knows exactly what’s going on (the brain remains a big mystery in many ways!) It’s layered for me…
The end of Term 2 feels like a shift. We’re leaving the first half of the year behind us and heading into the second part. It’s a beautiful time to pause and work out how I want the second half of the year to look.
I’m turning 50 next year. You don’t get much more of an opportunity to reassess! How do I want to live?
I applied for a part time job last month and didn’t get it. I’m not surprised that I didn’t get it – I didn’t meet some of the essential criteria. I loved the process of applying and of really recognising and acknowledging all of my skills.
It spurred me on to take myself, and my offerings a bit more seriously. ‘Stop dancing around the edges’ I thought to myself. Get cracking on this dream of yours to improve mental health and well being for all rural people. Stop learning and start teaching again. Go deep. Go to where it scares you a bit. And back yourself, all the way.
I don’t need to be employed by someone else to realise my worth. I know that what I have to share is important and it will look different, depending on the mood and the season. So the Second Act is looking very exciting for me. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Let’s breathe together, relax deeply, and reconnect with the nature surrounding us.
